About his life
Verner Panton, born in Gamtofte (1926), Denmark, studied at Odense Technical College before enrolling at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen as an architecture student. He worked from 1950-1952 in the architectural firm of Arne Jacobsen and founded an independent studio for architecture and design in 1955. Verner Panton died in 1998 in Copenhagen.
What are the main features of Panton’s style?
Considered one of Denmark’s most influential 20th-century furniture and interior designers, during his career, Panton created innovative and futuristic works. His style was very “1960s” but regained popularity at the end of the 20th century; as of 2004, Panton’s most well-known furniture models are still in production (at Vitra, among others).

He also introduced a series of modern lamps, and worked successfully to create a new set of theories about light function and influence. Verner Panton’s works are represented in numerous museums worldwide and for his designs he has been awarded several prestigious prizes.
